The purpose of this class is to promote responsible firearm ownership through quality education that focus on the safe use of firearms.

It is a non-shooting course (NO live ammunition is allowed in the classroom).

This course is intended for anyone who believes that taking personal responsibility for the safety of ourselves and our families is in fact, a serious responsibility. If you are asking yourself, “Is owning a firearm right for me?” then this is the course to help guide you to making a well-informed decision.  Your instructor will discuss both lethal and non-lethal methods of personal protection

This class is geared towards the individual who has or who is interested in obtaining a home defense or concealed carry permit and looking for a more comprehensive class covering the following topics:

    • Developing a Personal and Home Protection Plan.

    The purpose of a personal and home protection plan, Conflict avoidance, Situational awareness, color codes of awareness, observing our environments Concealed carry permits.

    • Self-Defense Firearm Basics.

    Understanding Firearms, the universal safety rules, clearing handguns, understanding a handgun’s action, revolvers, semi-automatics, Which handgun is right for you? Bullets and Ballistics/Handgun ammunition, Malfunctions, Other use of force options.

    • Defensive Shooting Fundamentals.

    Defensive shooting versus marksmanship, Proper grip, shooting platform or Stance, Aligning the muzzle to the target, Point / instinctive shooting. Flash sight picture, sight alignment, Trigger control.

    • The Legal Use of Force.

    Reasonable force and Deadly force, the “Use of Force Continuum.”, How will a prosecutor evaluate your case? Defense of the home, Defense of property.

    • Deadly Encounters and the Aftermath.

    The physiology of fight or flight, Adrenaline and endorphins, recognizing a Threat, evaluating our options, when we’re left with no other choice, The immediate aftermath, When the police arrive, The financial aftermath.

    • Gear and Gadgets.

    Holsters, Tactical flashlights, Laser sights, Gun safes & storage., Range Bags

    • Basic and Advanced Skills.

    Creating a training program, Dry firing, Fundamental drills, Speed and accuracy drills, Virtual training, Next steps.

Course fee includes a Free copy of Concealed Carry and Home Defense Book ($30.00 value) and a Free copy of a recent issue of Concealed Carry Magazine ($9.99 value).

USCCA Concealed Carry and Basic Handgun Course Certificates of completion will be issued to all attendees at the end of the course. USCCA Concealed Carry and Basic Handgun Course completion certificates are approved by Sullivan and Ulster Counties (NYS) as proof of a handgun safety course completion when applying for a pistol permit application in Sullivan and Ulster Counties. If you are applying for a pistol permit in another county, please be sure to check with the appropriate licensing authority to be sure they will accept the USCCA Concealed Carry and Basic Handgun Course completion certificate.


Students MUST arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled class start in order to attend. Do not bring personal equipment or firearms into the classroom.  No loaded guns or live ammunition are permitted in the class room. Thank you!

Waivers and ID: All students are required to sign a waiver prior to taking any course given by SITC. LLC or its instructors.

All students must present a Driver’s license or other identification which has a photo and shows name, D.O.B., place of residence.

SITC Training Course Cancellation and No-Show Policy:

Customers who wish to cancel or reschedule their course enrollment must do so a minimum of seven days prior to the scheduled course date in order to receive a full refund or to be rescheduled to another course date free of charge.

For cancellations received within seven days of the scheduled course no full refunds will be issued.  Customers wishing to reschedule for another currently listed course date can do so, but will incur a $25 rescheduling fee.  Customers also have the option to receive store credit for the course less the $25 rescheduling fee.

Failure to attend the course (no-show), or cancellations received up to 24 hours prior to the course, will not receive a refund.  Customers who wish to reschedule will be required to pay the course fee again.

SITC reserves the right to cancel or reschedule courses, seminars, clinics, or events at any time.  If we are forced to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances or conditions beyond our control, students are entitled to a full refund or can be rescheduled to a future class date at no charge.  ANY cancellation notice will be given via the phone number or email address you provide at the time of enrollment, please be sure you are providing the absolute best means for SITC to contact you.
